"This government had an idea
And Congress made it law
It seems like it's heavily restricted
To share a file online

Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?

We set out to join the picket line
For together we cannot fail
We got stopped by police at the county line
They said, "Go home girls or you're going to jail"

Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?

It's hard to explain to a conscious man
Why he can't share a file
So the people must suffer
But it hurts me more
To hear a man say fuck you, Jack

Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?

I'm bound to follow my conscience
And do whatever I can
But it'll take much more than the SOPA law
To knock the fight out of a fanboy man

Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?" - A parody of "Which Side Are You on?" by Pete Seeger, parts by Billy Bragg.

Legally speaking, with the SOPA law, congress is demanding all web sites stop any trace of sharing a file if it is questionable - even those outside of the USA. That's exceeding their authority. You really cannot regulate the internet's content except on a global scale. China has proven this. They have very tough anti-porn laws. However, they're also the biggest consumers of porn. In other words, where there's a will, there will be a way around it.
So seven of the Secret Agent Fangirl ladies have turned into Ladies Godiva to protest something that should not be done.
I'm not alone in opposing this. In protest, Google has covered up its logo. Animenewsnetwork.com has blacked out words randomly on their site. Wikipedia has taken their site offline and replaced it with a "contact your congressman" setup. (Unfortunately, my congressman, Pete Sessions, is in the back pocket of the censors.)
Update: Ireland is jumping on the censorship bandwagon.
More on that here: [link]

Of course, it will simply drive servers away from our respective countries...

CISPA FTF.

You need to sign against CISPA, before it passes Senate.

There's no age proviso in SOPA or PIPA. The bill is centered exclusively on piracy. PROTECT 2257 went into effect in 2003 and still stands today in regards to any US law requiring proof of age. However, in 2006 and 2008, the United States Supreme Court upheld that non-photographic artistic nudity was exempt from this provision on the grounds that, unlike a photograph of a naked child, a drawing "hurts no real person" and therefore cannot be held as a crime. SOPA/PIPA are evil, but let's not go for "masturbation causes Jesus to kill a kitten every time you wank" level hyperbole to make the point.

^^;Okay, I got SOPA and PIPA a bit confused, and I heard secondhand that part of PIPA was that you would have to provide proof of age for any adult website. I've fixed the lyrics to more accurately reflect SOPA.

The latest I've heard from the news is that both sides are backing off of SOPA, but its clone in the other house, PIPA, will still be debated next week. Meanwhile, some of SOPA's backers are feeling the heat and withdrawing their support. Neverthless, keep it up, girls, and fight this stupid law that won't do a damn thing to "clean up" the internet.

Nice naked protest from your OCs, and a nice tribute to Pete Seeger. I grew up with quite a bit of his music, since my parents were folkies back in the 50's and early 60's. Gotta give him props for truly not giving two drizzling shits about mechanical rights and royalties when other bands (most notably Peter, Paul and Mary; I grew up with their music too) wanted to cover his songs.

I had heard of Billy Bragg before, I just wasn't familiar with a lot of his music. My most recent brush with his music before your piece was in seeing Juicehead (that Nov. 20 Misfits concert) do a punk guitar/bass/drum blitzkrieg cover of "To Have and Have Not" [link]

Actually the government opposes the act, the people that want this passed are a bunch of companies that think money can get the law through.

Here's the list. [link]

I'm surprised Cassie Coulton isn't protesting. Considering how left-wing liberal Democrat Al Franken supports this bill, she should be out protesting the liberals trying to censor the internet.

There are more Conservatives on that list of supporters than Liberals. But the bill is not a "partisan" thing. It seems to be universally supported by all the morons who think the Internet is made up of tubes. That extends to both ideologies.

Indeed. Some things just shouldn't be debatable, and ought to be opposed by everyone--left, right, center. SOPA is one of those issues.
